I Am Barfing Inside Myself!

Because it is St. Patrick’s Day, I made Corned Beef for dinner. Well, it did have something to do with my “meat” man at the grocery store. He found me in the cereal isle and asked if I had gotten my corned beef! I told him no, we have never had it before. He said it was great and so easy to fix, he would go to the back and get me a good one!

He got it.
I cooked it.
I also cooked some cabbage, a salad and put out last night’s cornbread. I thought it would be a very tasty dinner.

It wasn’t. We really didn’t care for the taste of the corned beef although I cooked it expertly. I didn’t like my choice of salad dressing, so I didn’t like that. I LOVED the cornbread, but it really has too many carbs for me, so the cabbage was my favorite part.

I said that out loud, about the cabbage, adding that I wasn’t even sure it had anything of nutritional value in it. Zak was aghast!

Zak: “What! I am barfing inside myself to eat this stuff!”

That’s not the kind of comment we mothers are striving for.

I looked up cabbage…it is VERY good for you besides tasting good (to me).

So, I took pictures...then I put the picture on the computer and found more pictures that I took. Here is a small sampling of our lives, through pictures, over the last little while I guess it has not been all cooking, cleaning, running, homework and bed:

BEES!
If you know me, you know I do NOT like bees! I found this pile right by our mailbox today! How did they get there!!
Kerry told us tonight that when he changed the light bulb to the outside light recently, all those dead bees were caught in the light fixture. He knocked them out and left them to their own burial.

The current book I am reading is called The Happiness Project. It is interesting, different and I am enjoying it. It is non-fiction. One of the things the author did was go through her house and de-clutter. Well, I could use a little of that, so today I started with my purse. This is all the stuff that was in my purse!! No wonder it was so heavy. I like all that stuff. It has a purpose. I just have to find a better place for it.

Every store you go to now wants you to get one of their cards!! If you don't your purchase will cost you more, so I just get the stinking card! What are we supposed to do with them!!

Hawaii!!
This was the view from our hotel room.
This is showing just one of the pools.

The ocean from our hotel room...look close.
I am all about food...that is how I chronicle my life.
Kerry was golfing. I was left to my own devices for about 5 or 6 hours. I got myself some good lunch at the grocery store, saw this piece of cake.
It was MOST delicious!!
Early memory: My grandma bringing me a German Chocolate Cake for my 3rd birthday. I don't remember anything else, just the look of that fabulous cake.
I don't regret a bite!

Griffin entertaining himself during primary.
Enough said.

OH, More Hawaii....
another view from our hotel room
It was a lovely time.

Our Hotel room
Notice it is TWO rooms!! A TV in each room! Amazing.
I think what is on TV was what we watched during the terrible Tsunami

Pizza for dinner: I have made pizza for dinner lately. It is very good.
Zak said: "Are you under the impression that pizza you buy is better than this? It's not. This is way better!"
Now that is the kind of comment we mothers really like!

Oh, cookies. So good. Haven't had those in a while....
I guess that is the end!!
Hope you enjoyed this pictorial journey.

How Much Do You Weigh?

Griffin wanted to weigh himself so he hopped on the scale. Dad and I were there watching the scale and I was amazed at the final number:

56.8

me: Griffin, I am amazed you weigh that much!
Griffin: Mom! I eat a lot!
The joy of being proud of your scale number!

Challenge Fan X

on "Page 2" of ESPN they created this new columnist called "Fan X". His whole persona is that he is a regular guy, but a sports genius, he would be the best GM or coach if someone gave him a job. So, in his most recent column he posted a link to his fantasy baseball leage and challenged people to join it so he can prove how he dominates (but join fast, only 20 people per league!) today I looked at the league (assuming it was full) but I saw that it still were like 6 slots left to join. I looked around for a long time and couldn't find a place where it actually lets you join. (that must be why there are still spots left, none can figure out how to join), but by my genius I found out how to join. If you want you can join too by using this link. I don't know anything about fantasy baseball, but I wanted to join just so I can smack talk in the chats and win and become famous. I'm gonna just let it auto-draft for me when the time comes. My team name is Why Can't I Draft S-Jax

And The Oscar Goes To.....

I tried to find the kind of envelope that the "Presenters" open up to say who won that academy award....I couldn't find it; this is the best I could do!
Over at the Payne blog, you will find an Oscar ballot to print out; fill out and possibly win.
Give it a try!

I Want The Rams To Draft Ndamakon Suh

So, last night Zak sat down at the computer to do some homework. He saw that Kylie had left her Orthography homework up on the computer. (Orthography: the art of writing words with the proper letters, according to accepted usage; correct spelling.)

There was a whole discussion on whether or not save it, what to do, Zak needed to use the computer, Kylie was done and sitting on the couch. I told Zak to just save it. So he did. He saved it as: I want the rams to draft Ndamakon Suh.doc **I just looked it up, and the correct way to spell his name is Ndamukong Suh.

I thought it very funny.

Now; here is Kylie's orthography; she is very creative:

1. Although the school district does what they think is right, there are often complaints.
2. Although the honorable school district does what they think will ameliorate schools, there are perpetually complaints.
3. “Congratulations!” the reporters said at the beginning of the superbowl M.V.P.’s interview.
4. “Congratulations!” buoyantly ejaculated the sanguine reporter at the beginning of the superbowl M.V.P’s titillating interview.
5. Although young children often get into mischief, they are forgiven easily.
6. Although puerile children often get into mischief inadvertently, they are usually amnestied facilely.
7. Since there was only one more spot for an employee, the boss had a hard time
choosing who to employ.
8. Since there was only one more billet for a cog, the austere boss had trouble selecting the condign employee.
9. My partner had lots of ideas for the hard project.
10. My apt, innovational partner had multifarious, meritorious ideas for our ardorous project.
11. Our laughter echoed throughout the house.
12. Our obstreperous laughter reiterated throughout the integral house.
13. Although homework is helpful, most students don’t like it.
14. Although didactic homework is exorbitantly efficacious, myriad scholars have animosity for it.
15. Sometimes writing complex sentences is hard.
16. Recurrently transcribing complex independent clauses is laborious.
17. Since exercising is good for your health, it is important that while they’re young, children exercise.
18. \since exercising is parlously beneficial for your health, it’s paramount that at a callow age, you exercise.
19. The rude critic complained about the delicious food.
20. The boorish critic complained interminably about the piquant food.

BYU Choir Phenomenon

BYU choirs are very interesting things. If you ever go to choir practice, there are usually at most 10 people there. Choir directors are always begging more people to come. And usually the people who come (at least the men) really can't sing. I've tried to participate in several BYU choirs, but I just get frustrated because there are only 3 bass singers (including me), and I'm the only one who seems to realize whether or not you've hit the right note.

The thing is, anytime a BYU choir is asked to sing, sometimes it seems like half the ward stands up. Like 50 or more people. Yes, that's right - there are "choir members" who really only go to choir practice maybe once (if that), and then sing with the choir in church. It is the weirdest thing. Some BYU students just consider themselves special. I had a roommate once who said if he was ever choir director, he would put pauses in weird places to make all those people stick out and never do it again.

New Roommates

This could be embarrassing if he reads this. Oh well.

It sure is different having to change roommates after 20 years or so. My new roommate talks to himself. A lot. Like sometimes I can't tell when he's talking to me or when he talks to himself. At least when Mom does it, you can tell who she's talking to.

The thing is, I don't think he even realizes all the time when he does it. The other night, I was trying to go to sleep. It was past midnight (maybe 12:30 am?). He was sitting there trying to write an essay or something, and merrily talking to himself while he did it. I finally had to ask him to please stop talking to himself so that I could go to sleep.

Next place I move into, I'm at least getting a private room. I deserve it.

Sometimes I have people call me on the phone because they need some work done on their website. I will pull up the website with them, ask them some careful questions to make sure I understand exactly what they need, and then give them a quote. "This will cost $xxx to do."

Sometimes they respond, "whew, that's less than I thought. Go ahead." But the response that really annoys me: "Wait, but this is just really easy to do!" At this point, my response is usually "Well if it is so easy, why don't you do it?" That doesn't usually help things.

It is interesting when people self proclaim that they know nothing about computers, yet they know exactly how easy a programming problem is to do. Enough to contradict the programming expert. Oh well, I guess it's only a waste of about 10 minutes of my day.

Does Jesus Believe In Candy In Heaven?

While helping in Griffin's classroom the other day, somehow I got into this discussion with a little girl and a little boy:

me: wouldn't it be so nice if we could eat as much cake and candy as we wanted and not get fat?

girl: when you go to heaven you can!

me: really!

girl: yes, that's what heaven will be like!

boy (with a somewhat strained look on his face): nobody is going to heaven!

girl: if you believe in Jesus you will go to heaven!!

hmm, I could see that this could be quite the debate, but it was not the right time for a discussion on the plan of happiness; the teacher was watching; the kids were supposed to be working on their short and long E vowel sounds. So I said:

me: I guess we will find out what happens when we all die!

Be Careful What You Tell A Child

I helped at Griffin's library time at the school yesterday.

I check the books in, I put the books away, I check the new books out. I try to make a little comment to each child just because I like to connect with them.

Griffin came up in line and quickly, he said, "Mom, Hannah's mom hates me AND you!".

Oh my.

For Griffin's valentine's he gave out little fun dips. What child doesn't like fun dips!

Hannah, who was 2 children behind Griffin in line, explained with a smile on her face that while she was eating the fun dip, the sugar got all over her mouth (of course) and some got in her stitches, which are right by the corner of her mouth, and made her stitches sticky.

Oops.

I know her mother. I am sure she would be somewhat embarrassed to know that that little story was told at school.
I thought it funny.
